RETREAT
Ecology of Belonging
An intimate women’s retreat with horses in the Sonoran Desert, where we slow down enough to sense what has been obscured by separation and remember our belonging within the living field of life.
November 5 - 8, 2026
Remembering Relationship
For much of human history, belonging was not an idea that needed to be explained. It was a lived relationship, renewed through story, ritual, shared meals, seasonal rhythms, and practices of gratitude. These ways of living kept us in reciprocity with what sustained us — one another, the land, and the larger movements of life.
Modern life often interrupts this continuity. We move quickly, carry what was never meant to be held alone, and lose contact with the relationships that help the body feel present, rooted, and whole.
Our gathering takes place beneath the new moon—a quiet threshold within the lunar cycle associated with inward listening, renewal, and beginnings not yet visible. In the darkness of the moon, we are invited not to reach for immediate answers, but to become still enough to sense what is ready to emerge.
Held within this energy, Ecology of Belonging offers a space to slow down, listen inwardly, and reconnect with what has never truly been lost, only obscured. Through time with the herd, quiet on the land, shared ritual, and the presence of other women, belonging becomes less something we seek and more something we remember together.
Is this Gathering Calling You?
This retreat is for women who long to slow down, listen more deeply, and return to a felt sense of belonging.
It is for those who are not seeking another way to improve themselves, but space to become present to what is already here — to inhabit their lives more fully, to be met without having to perform, and to discover what becomes possible when what has been carried alone is held in relationship.
Together, we listen to the body, the horses, the land, and one another — not as separate sources of wisdom, but as expressions of the one living system we are.
The Herd: A Place to Begin
Horses live in continual relationship with what they sense. They notice shifts in pace, pressure, distance, breath, attention, and intention — sometimes before we have consciously registered that something has changed.
In their presence, we can begin to recognize this same language within our own bodies.
Experiences with the herd are simple and unhurried. You might walk toward a horse and pause when something shifts. You might notice an impulse to continue, step back, soften, wait, or remain still. You may become aware of the moment connection begins — and what happens when you stop trying to make it happen.
The purpose is not to interpret the horse or achieve a particular outcome. It is to become more present to what is happening within you as relationship unfolds.
Your Guide
Peggy O’Kelly
Founder and Steward of Tridentata
Ecology of Belonging is hosted and guided by Peggy O’Kelly. Her work is shaped by Somatic Experiencing®, mindfulness, energy healing, and many years of living and learning in relationship with the herd and the desert.
Peggy offers a grounded, attentive presence while allowing each woman’s experience to unfold in its own timing. Rather than directing the retreat toward a predetermined outcome, she tends the conditions in which listening, connection, and deeper remembering can become possible.
She will be joined by trusted local practitioners whose offerings support the intention and rhythm of the gathering.
What We Will Explore
Over four days, we will move between body, herd, land, and circle, listening for how belonging is experienced — and where it has become difficult to feel.
We will explore the patterns that organize us around protection: the ways we brace, accommodate, withdraw, reach, or try to earn our place. Not to judge or correct them, but to meet them with greater presence and understand the intelligence they have carried.
We will practice relationship without performance — noticing what changes when there is nothing to prove, manage, or make happen. In the company of the horses and other women, we may begin to feel the difference between connection that is pursued and connection that is allowed to emerge.
We will listen to the language of the body: its boundaries, impulses, rhythms, and quiet forms of knowing. We will explore how trust grows through choice, pacing, reciprocity, and the experience of being met without being overwhelmed.
And we will remember belonging not as something we must find or achieve, but as a living relationship with the land, the herd, one another, and the larger movement of life.
These are not lessons to master. They are places of inquiry — entered slowly, with curiosity, and only as deeply as each woman is ready to go.
