FROM PEGGY - What has Shaped Me

Arriving Here

I arrive in this moment as a mother, a daughter, a sister, a steward, and a woman shaped through many medicines, lineages, relationships, and ways of knowing.

My path has moved through rupture and return, through the intelligence of the body, and through the care of those who met me along the way. Each relationship has helped me understand life not as a collection of separate parts, but as one living system continually shaping and being shaped through relationship.

Years with the herd and the desert land have deepened this learning. They have taught me to slow down, listen beneath what is spoken, and remain close to what is unfolding without rushing toward certainty.

What has emerged is not a final answer, but a way of being — attentive, relational, and trusting of what becomes possible when life is met with presence and grace.

From Rupture to Return

For a long time, I knew how to move through life by doing, achieving, holding things together, and finding my way through will and responsibility. Then life as I knew it was upended, and the rhythm I had trusted was no longer available to me.

What I first experienced as interruption became, over time, an initiation into a deeper way of listening.

My body was not simply stopping me. It was revealing what had remained hidden beneath the surface: where I had been protecting, where I had been striving beyond my capacity, and where I had learned to move through life while becoming separated from my own truth.

The path back was not about returning to who I had been. It was an invitation to become present to the life that was asking to be lived now.

What I Have Come to Understand

I have come to understand that the body carries a wisdom older than thought. It listens before the mind understands. It protects before we have language. It knows when an experience is too much to be fully met.

In its intelligence, the body holds what exceeds our capacity — not as a failure, but as an act of preservation. When the body senses enough safety, support, and capacity, it allows what has been held to move toward completion, to be processed, and ultimately released.

I have also come to trust that the body is not separate from the life around it. Body, land, memory, ancestry, relationship, silence, and soul are expressions of one living intelligence.

What happens within us is shaped by what happens between us. Healing does not unfold in isolation, but through the fields of relationship in which we are seen, accompanied, challenged, and allowed to become more fully present.

What I Carry Forward

What I offer now is inseparable from how I have lived. It has grown through what I have received, practiced, questioned, grieved, and slowly come to remember.

I do not carry this knowing as an answer for another person or as a path to place upon someone else’s life.

I offer presence, relationship, and conditions in which deeper listening may become possible — for those who feel the call to pause, turn toward what is here, and come into relationship with what has been quietly alive within them all along.
